Living Well in a Global Crisis

This website is designed to help us—myself, my friends and others—respond positively to the massive global crises that are now in their beginning stages. There are things you can do for the sake of yourself, your community, and the world.

Most of us by now have some information on climate change, thanks in part to Al Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.” To summarize the news, all reputable scientists studying the issue agree that humans are changing the climate at an unprecedented rate, with consequences that will become increasingly catastrophic. One example of where we are headed, unless we change course: Our activites could cause the flooding of coastal cities worldwide, rendering them uninhabitable for many millions of people, during our lifetimes.

A related issue, not covered in “An Inconvenient Truth,” is that of “Peak Oil,” the fact that the fossil fuels that support our industrial civilization will skyrocket in price as the easy-to-get supplies become depleted. How soon? There is much debate, but many analyses indicate it will happen within the next decade or two. There are no good replacement energy sources to use to maintain our current way of life. This gives us lot to think about, a lot to feel, and a lot to do.

Best wishes, and enjoy the site.
